50 JAAR AAN dE RIETVeLd acaDEMIE

Museum Jan van der Togt

Dorpsstraat 50, 1182 JE Amstelveen

Hours : Tuesday to  Sunday, 11:00 – 17:00

The Glass department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam is one of the oldest academic programmes for glass art in the world.

Starting out as a workshop that was accessible for students of all fine arts programmes, the department evolved into an independent specialisation. From the very bedinning, experimentation, freedom of shape and choice and a critical attitude to one's own work have formed a central touchstones.
Students learn technical skills but are especially encouraged to explore and also go beyonf the limits og the material. Throughout the years, this avant-garde trend formed the common thread which made the Glass Division of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie what it is today: an innovative, forward-thinking academic institution for arts education that is recognised all over the world.
